I hate coming out of cryo. My mouth tastes like I've eaten a lifetime worth of dust and it feels like my bladder is the size of a small planet. And those are the high points. Of course, arranging to get sent out here wasn't handled in what I'd call an ideal manner... but that's irrelevant now. I can feel the transport begin its aerobraking maneuvers so we should be due to put down in the next 12 hours or so. If only Hannah could see me like this, with nothing but the Company-issued rags on my back, and empty pockets...wouldn't she be surprised. No turning back now, though.

Me, mining? I never pictured it. Oh, I'll play by the rules for the first few days, get the feel of the place. But...I suspect there's more to do than stand there with a drill for hours on end. I'm actually looking forward to it, strangely enough.

Welcome to Core Mud, an interactive text MUD set on the planet formal star-charts refer to as Hermes 571-G, but that everyone in the know refers to simply as "Core". Core is one of the most distant settlements known to mankind, most famous for its lucrative yet oppressive mines. But more than mankind can be found here; Core is a diverse group of 9 races in total, all vying for recognition or profits, or both, working for The Company, the megalithic entity running the colony itself. To The Company, everything is secondary to profits. It is up to you to determine how best to survive in this environment, whether that be through combat training, superior mining skills, or technical prowess.

Core MUD is always free to play and features a fun and supportive atmosphere. Roleplaying is encouraged but not mandatory. Mining is your primary source of income, but there are multiple ways to scrape together a few credits... or a few million. Core Mud also features an economy which is player-driven; players own merchandise shops featuring energy weaponry or useful tools, pubs featuring assorted alcoholic (of course) and non-alcoholic beverages, and clinics for healing, to name a few. Promoted Steve to Arch as he was able to arrange for our new hosting. He's been working diligently to integrate Core with the Mudlet game client. The game can transit WAV and MP3 sounds, we integrate with Mudlet's automapper, and we have some status meters that update in real-time.

Core's prior hosting service went out of business. We have therefore moved to a modern 64-bit server and this fixed many issues.

Core being a textual game, it lends itself to use screenreader software in order to play. We have made numerous accessability improvements throughout the year. A player who needs screenreader support types:
    setenv screenreader on
This changes the gameplay experience so there's not as much ASCII art, and tablular output is easier to interpret.

Core now supports secure TLS when you play. All players are encouraged to utilize this important feature! If you're using Mudlet, create a new profile for either port 4022 or 4022 and click the "Secure" checkbox, like so:

We're on a newer FluffOS driver now (FluffOS v2019). Thank you to those who helped us test over on the Test Port!

We are aware that our webserver doesn't support TLS 1.3, I'm going to be honest, I don't really care. TLS 1.2 is still sufficient until we upgrade the host.
